For the past 16 years, JSI has raised money for the local Kiwanis chapter through the Clayton Johndro Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit local children’s programs. In 2020, the tournament was unfortunately cancelled due to the prevalence of COVID-19, but thanks to the generosity of our valued community and business partners, we were able to raise $30,000 for this worthy cause. This year, we are pleased to announce that in addition to exceeding our goal of $30,000, we’ve now reached over $291,000 in lifetime donations.
“To ensure the safety of our valued partners and sponsors, we thought it only right to postpone last year’s tournament,” explained Terry Awalt, CEO of JSI Store Fixtures. “Unfortunately, the burden that children in poverty face doesn’t just go away with a pandemic. They need our help now more than ever. With that in mind, we’re overjoyed to be able to come together again this year for such a great cause.”
It was always the desire of Clayton and Jean Johndro to give back to the local youth, so as a tribute to them, all of the proceeds from the event are committed 100% to assisting children in the Milo region through a variety of programs overseen by the Three Rivers Kiwanis.
Prior to tee off at the beautiful Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, ME the teams were inspired by rousing rendition of the National Anthem by Up Tempo, a local a cappella group which features two JSI employees, Norm Springer and Wayne Leighton.
“We can’t thank our donors enough for making this all possible”, exclaimed Awalt. “Through their compassion and understanding, our community gains strength. Next year, we’re shooting for $50,000!”
